Expiring PGWP? Here’s How You Can Stay in Canada
Your Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) is going to expire. And now you are worried about how you will stay in Canada or even get permanent residence.
Well, don’t worry! Even if your PGWP is expiring, there are ways to allow you to stay in Canada and keep building a wonderful life. As a certified immigration consultant Canada, we will assist you to find the best way to continue staying in Canada.
We can find a way out for you from the following five ways to stay in Canada after PGWP expiration.
-
Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)
If you have graduated from an Atlantic post-secondary institute and hold a job offer in Atlanta, you can apply for permanent residence through AIP.
If you have a job offer in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, or Prince Edward Island, you can apply for AIP. The best thing about this program is that you don’t necessarily need any work experience. So, if you are a new graduate with no work experience, you can still get a permanent residence using AIP.
-
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)
Each province offers a nominee program for immigrants. And it can be beneficial for graduates with expiring PGWP.
Also, several PNPs have express entry provisions. With these express entry provisions, PGWP holders can get permanent residence in 6 months of applications.
-
Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)
You will be eligible for RNIP if you have a post-secondary degree program or master’s degree from a publicly funded institute. Also, you have to spend a minimum amount of time in the community to apply for RNIP.
-
Work Permit
If your PGWP is expiring, you can apply for a work permit. However, as registered Canadian immigration consultants, we know that applying for a work permit can be tough. Most employers need to conduct a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This can be time-consuming and require the employer to spend money. Hence, they might go for the International Mobility Program (IMP) where they can hire temporary workers. As someone whose PGWP is expiring, this can be a great opportunity to get a job and stay in Canada for longer.
-
Apply for a new post-secondary program
If you are waiting for your Invitation to Apply for Express Entry, you can apply for a new post-secondary program in the meantime. This also allows you to work for 20 hours per week. If your PGWP is expiring, you must make sure that you maintain your status in Canada to keep staying in the country. As one of the top Canada immigration consultants, we at Canadian Immediate Immigration Service will help you find the right way.
