Five Steps to Apply for Canadian Study Permit
Are you ready to take the next step in your educational journey? Do you intend to study abroad? If so, Canada must be on your list of countries to get higher education.
As a certified immigration consultant Canada, we have seen a massive surge in the number of international students applying to different courses in the country. High-ranking universities, quality education, and a comfortable immigrant environment make Canada one of the favourite countries amongst international students.
But before you move to Canada, you need to apply for a study permit that gives you legal permission to land in Canada and pursue your education.
How do you get the study permit? There are five steps that you should follow to successfully get a study permit and maintain your student status.
-
Obtain an Acceptance Letter
To start your study permit application process, you must have your acceptance letter from the Canadian University. You can find a sample acceptance letter on the IRCC portal to understand what it looks like and what information it must have. Also, make sure you get the acceptance letter via Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
Moreover, apply to a course that can offer a Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) so that you can begin working in Canada once your study ends.
-
Fill Study Permit Application
Based on your home country, the study permit application will require extensive documentation apart from an acceptance letter. Make sure to check the documents on the IRCC portal or you can also get in touch with our top Canada immigration consultants to know more about the same.
However, two documents are a must to fill a study permit application.
-
Acceptance Letter
-
Financial Proof: You must provide financial proof detailing that you can support your stay in Canada. This includes your tuition fees, food, accommodation, and more.
-
Submit Your Application
Once you have filled out the study permit application and prepared all your documents, you must submit the same as soon as possible. Use the online portal or submit a hard copy of everything to your designated visa application center (VAC).
Make sure that you submit your application in advance. It can take from a few weeks to months to process your application. A lot of it depends on which country you come from.
-
Travel to Canada
If your application gets approved, you must travel to Canada. There are two scenarios in this case:
-
If you live outside Canada, you will get your study permit from the Canadian Port of Entry (POE). Study permits are not mailed outside Canada. Hence, when you arrive at a POE, you need to connect with a border official to get your study permit.
-
If you live inside Canada, your study permit is mailed to you.
-
Maintaining Your Status
Lastly, when your study permit is approved, you can start studying as an international student in Canada. However, you must maintain your student status and follow these guidelines:
-
Stay enrolled at a DLI to maintain your student status.
-
Complete your program.
-
Follow study permit guidelines.
-
If you don’t meet the study permit requirements, stop studying immediately.
-
Return to your home country when your study permit expires.
If you follow these five steps to get and maintain your study permit, you will have a bright and successful future in the country.
